The best dog foods do NOT contain: Generic fats (animal fat) or generic
proteins (animal or poultry protein), artificial colors or preservatives
(BHA, BHT, potassium sorbate, sodium nitrate, & Ethoxyquin), propylene
glycol, sweeteners (sugar, corn syrup, sucrose, & ammoniated glycyrrhizin).
The best dog foods DO contain: Superior sources of protein (a whole
meat source as one of the first two ingredients or two meat sources
among the top three ingredients), and whole unprocessed grains, vegetables,
and other foods.
The best dog foods contain a MINIMUM (should not be listed more than
once in the first five ingredients (IF AT ALL) of: Food fragments,
meat or poultry by-products, and corn or corn by-products.
The best dog foods SHOULD also come with an expiration date or "born
on" date. Check for this!
You should choose 3 - 4 foods, and rotate them throughout the year.
