Our Dog Trainer School

~ SIRIUS K9 ACADEMY PROFESSIONAL DOG TRAINER PROGRAM - (16 week / 250 hour course)
This course will prepare you for a career training dogs professionally. Upon completion of this course, you will receive a Professional Dog Trainer Certificate.
Class location: Sirius K9 Academy (indoor facility) in Yorba Linda.
Projected class start date: The end of August 2010
This course will meet three times per week (Sunday (afternoon), Monday (evening), and Thursday (evening)) for four hours each day (times will vary) for four months. Additional mandatory class observation days will also be scheduled (on Saturday, Tuesday, and/or Wednesday.) This will be a part-time intensive hands-on course.
Cost: $4,390.00 (8 student maximum!)
Prerequisite: An application and a non-refundable application fee of $50.00 as well as a $250.00 deposit is required to reserve a spot in this class. The balance will be due on the first day of class and the deposit will be applied to the class fee. (A payment plan is available upon request.) You must be 18 years or older and in good physical condition. The applicant must possess a High School diploma (or G.E.D.) and be fluent in English.
Instructor: Caroline Haldeman. (Guest instructors / speakers will also be scheduled.) This course will incorporate only rescue dogs in need of homes into the program. Students will be working with these dogs throughout the program at their home, at our facility, as well as at the location where the dogs are being boarded/kenneled. (You may not use your own dog, as it is much challenging to train a dog that is not your own.) This course will cover many aspects of dog training including; Obedience (puppy, basic, intermediate, advanced, and competition), tracking, protection training, therapy dog training, scent discrimination, agility, Rally-O, the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test, remote collar training, clicker training, Pet First Aid / CPR, behavior modification and much more! You will need to be prepared to transport the rescue dogs you will be working to and from class, as well as be able to temporarily foster a rescue dog at your home in order to meet the requirements of this course.
